In accordance with Philadelphia’s lockdown, we will be offering video and phone sessions only. We value your physical health as much as we value your mental health. Please know that our video sessions are HIPPA compliant and can be accessed either on your laptop, tablet, or cell phone.
In terms of video session, we conducted several tests of our system.
Using your laptop in an area with WIFI and a closed door is the best case scenario.
If you do not have access to a room in your house with WIFI access that goes beyond a closed door, you CAN use your phone to access the session. We tested the connection and while the transition from WIFI to data use is rocky (if you walk outside while connected), but overall, the data connection (being outside of your WIFI connection), is not terrible.
Some ideas for those of you with limited privacy at home:
-Go for a walk for the length of your session. Use headphones to connect to your therapy session and use your phone for the video feature. Be mindful to maintain 6 feet between yourself and others for both the virus and your privacy.
-Go to a local park and sit at a table or on a bench using your phone. Be mindful to maintain 6 feet between yourself and others for both the virus and for your privacy.
-Sit in your vehicle and use your phone- as directed above-or laptop (some cars have WIFI/hotspot connection).
-Request a phone call session with your therapist.
For those with other people at home and are worried about privacy
-Put music on or use a sound machine outside the closed door to mute out some of the noise
– Make it clear that you need privacy to those at home and request that those at home put a movie on, a tv show on, or head phones in order to keep themselves occupied.
-Make it clear with your therapist that there are other people at home and you can adjust some of your conversations for your privacy.
This is a very strange scenario that we are all finding ourselves in, but I am confident that we can work this out together. In times when everyone is home, stress levels can increase exponentially, so while it may seem challenging to maintain your therapy sessions, we are encouraging you to work with your therapist to continue your level of care.
You cannot pour from an empty cup and maintaining your mental health is crucial.
If you cannot continue your therapy sessions, please let your therapist know. Still try to maintain your level of mental health care even if that means just taking a walk. I created a blog post today that you can access here that gives some ideas on balancing mental health and working from/being at home.
Reach out for support. Social distancing does not mean isolation and we are here to support you in any way we can. We are in this together.
